I won't be posting much over the summer (but I will be posting so watch this space), so I compiled a sort of playlist of songs that have moved me to another place spiritually or emotionally (and sometimes both.) I hope you give them a listen and enjoy.
BROWN SUGAR (THE ROLLING STONES): This was one of my first "rock" songs that shook me to the core when I was about 7. Whenever it came on the radio (I listened to the 'oldies') I'd run around my room like a crackhead and skip to the end riffs. It was the blues influence that is still with me today.
SWEET CHILD O' MINE (GUNS 'N' ROSES): Defines two of my most intense relationships and is pure emotion. Enough said.
GEORGIA ON MY MIND (ELLA FITZGERALD): Sticky summer nights.
DON'T CRY (GUNS 'N' ROSES): Emotion I don't really want to relive, thanks.
IKO IKO (TRADITIONAL): Wicked tribal beat and a great little rhyme.
WILD HORSES/YOU GOT THE SILVER (THE ROLLING STONES): Tied for emotional value and a mood that soothes and saddens my soul. "Let's do some livin' after we die." Also, Keith's singing on 'You Got The Silver' is, well...Keith in all his blues.
UNA MUSICA BRUTAL (GOTAN PROJECT): Insane tango sex.
DREAM ON (AEROSMITH): Song choice of the century, I chose it for an art project, it helped bring me and my (now ex) Baby together.
BOOGIE WITH STU (LED ZEPPELIN): Honky tonk in its most organic state.
SHADOW OF YOUR LOVE (GUNS 'N' ROSES): When Guns was still shredding the club circuit and Axl still had his glam hair (see the 'Welcome to the Jungle' vido to get what I'm talking about.)
UP AGAINST THE WALL (PETER, BJORN AND JOHN): The most sublime expression of my life.
LET IT BE (THE BEATLES): I don't have to explain.
